View Here : What To Do With Expired Car Seats
According to Recycle Your Car Seat, curbside recycling programs do not typically accept children's car seats, even if you take them apart first. Currently, 18 states have recycling options for car seats, including Arizona, California, Texas and Maryland.
Writing all over it, “DO NOT USE, EXPIRED,” or “DO NOT USE, CRASHED,” may be good. If there are multiple languages used in your area, try to do all of them. Again, cut the harness.
A seat that has been involved in a crash, for instance, could be dangerous to use, and you might not know whether a manufacturer has recalled a seat. What's more, the components used in the typical car seat deteriorate and weaken over time.
All used car seats must meet the following three criteria: 1) Never been in an accident, 2) not expired, and 3) straps haven’t been cleaned with harsh chemicals. A group called RecycleYourCarSeat.org includes a link to a form that donors can fill out and attach to an old car seat prior to donating.
Most car seats have an expiration date on one of the manufacturer labels that can be found on the sides or bottom of the car seat. To find out if a car seat is expired, you should look for that expiration date label first. If there’s no expiration date listed, use the date of manufacture and consult the car seat owners’ manual.

Same thing happens to car seats. And then it is not strong enough to protect your child in an accident. In most places, using an expired carseat is also illegal. The law in most states requires you to follow the seat manufacturer's instructions for proper use of the seat - and it is the manufacturer that said the seat is expired.
Don’t just put the seat in the trash, especially if it has expired or been in a crash. An opportunistic young parent or parent-to-be passing by could snatch it up (car seats are expensive!). You don’t want them using an unsafe seat.
